Kathmandu / Day 1 - 2
Arrive in Kathmandu, looking down at the sprawl of mountains from your flight. A day in Kathmandu orients you to the simple and spiritual living of the Nepalese. To get oriented, here are some things that will be in store for you. Pashupatinath, UNESCO world cultural heritage site, one of the holiest shrines of all Hindus, is located eastern part of the Kathmandu valley on the bank of the Bagmati river with an area of approximately 2.5 square kilometers. Boudhanath stupa is one of the oldest and biggest Buddhist monuments of Nepal. The Boudhanath stupa, surrounded by many private colorful houses and Buddhist monasteries, is considered as Mecca for Tibetan Buddhists. Then there is Patan, known for its glorious temples and a major World Heritage Site. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Kathmandu – Lukla / Day 3
Our guide will come to the hotel to pick you up and transfer to the airport to catch the flight to Lukla. The mountain flight into Lukla is spectacular and the landing an exciting beginning to the trek – one end of the runway is 60 meters higher than the other. Heading through pine and cedar woods along the Dudh Kosi to Pakding you will encounter your first yak caravans carrying trekking and equipment and supplies – including yours – towards base camp. These wonderful beasts creating mobile roadblocks, or virtual avalanches on downhill stretches, are a feature of all treks in the Everest region. Overnight at the hotel.
Phakding – Namche Bazaar / Day 4
With a slight climb to Jorsalle, pass a waterfall. Along this part of the trail villages enjoy magnificent forests of Rhododendron, Mangoliya, and Giant Firs. Walk up to Namche Bazar. Namche Bazaar is the administrative capital of the region, historically it was the staging point for trading expeditions to Tibet and its Saturday market remains an important event bringing traders from villages a week’s walk away. Namche Bazaar / Day 5
An acclimatization day allows for an excursion to Thame. Intricately carved mani stones mark the path to this large valley with a picturesque gompa on the hillside overlooking the valley. Overnight at the hotel.
Namche Bazaar – Tengboche Monastery / Day 6
Thamserku, Kantega, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Everest rise in front. Woods of rhododendrons and the river make this a lovely walk. The morning view from Tengboche is considered one of the most magnificent in the world. Tengboche Gompa, is the cultural and religious center of Khumbu. Founded in 1912, it has been destroyed and rebuilt twice as the result of earthquake and fire. Forests, mani walls, chorten and suspension bridges run across. Overnight at the hotel.
Dingboche / Day 7 - 8
Stone steps lead down through rhododendrons, birches and conifers where, due to the hunting ban, almost tame pheasants are regularly seen. At the bottom lies the small village of Deboche and its nunnery. Rising above the tree line the trail enters alpine meadows of scrub juniper and, in summer, a profusion of wild flowers. From Dingboche, the only place in the region where barley is grown. The mountain views are outstanding. Overnight at the hotel. An acclimatization day here can be used to hike up the Imja Khola to Chhukung, a small summer settlement from where the views of Island Peak (6189), Lhotse, Ama Dablam and the fluted ice walls flanking the Amphu Lapcha pass are one of the highlights of the entire trek. Lobuche / Day 9
Alpine meadows and summer yak pastures lead toward the end of the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier where there is a steep, tough climb. There are stone memorials for six Sherpas who died in avalanche, as well as monuments to other climbers. From Lobuche the view is straight towards Nuptse and sunset is truly magnificent. Ghrakshep / Day 10
This is yet another day of tough climbing. Altitude makes the climb onto the Changri Glacier a daunting task. Overnight at the hotel.
Kalapathhar and Everest Base Camp / Day 11
This trail provides a wonderful view of Pumori. This section of the trek provides good views of the Everest Group from Gorakshep and Kalapatthar. Especially Kalapattar offers a closest view of Mt. Everest and as well as hundreds of other beautiful peaks including that of Tibet.
The route to base camp follows the Khumbu Glacier with its intriguing 15-meter-high seracs of ice, a feature unique to Himalayan glaciers. Everest Base Camp is the main camp for mountaineers as you have all the beautiful snowy mountains around and they really make it a life time memory in your travel history. Late afternoon return to Gorakshep for overnight stay. Overnight at the hotel.
Pangboche / Day 12
Descend the Imja Khola overnight to reach Pangboche, the highest permanent settlement. Its gompa, the oldest in Khumbu, is built over the hermitage of Khumbu’s saint Lama Sanga Dorje. The juniper trees on either side are said to have sprung from hair cut from his head and a rock-like projection is a piece of mountainside he pulled out for protection one day. Khumjung / Day 13
This is an easy way down to Tengboche which offers a beautiful glance of Mt. Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Cholatse, Thamserku and Amadablam. One can also visit Tangboche Monastery, the most important Buddhist center of this region. Continue walk down to Phunki Tenga from where you ascend uphill till Khumjng. It is one of the largest Sherpa villages of this region. You wil have a great view of Amadablam and make side excursion through the local Sherpa village to Hillary hospital and Hillary school.
Phakding / Day 14
An easy way walk down to Phakding village visa Namche Bazaar. Overnight stay at lodge.
Lukla / Day 15 - 16
Trek an easy way to Lukla, the last destination of your memorable trek. Our guide will re-confirm your next day flight to Kathmandu in the afternoon. Early morning after breakfast our guide take you to the airport to board on the flight to Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport you will be transferred to the hotel.
Kathmandu / Day 17 - 18
Spend a day sightseeing in Kathmandu. The first is Swayambhunath Maha Chaitya, the most fascinating architectural jewel of the world and a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. It stands on a hilltop in the western part of the Kathmandu and has been around for 2000 years. The next is Bhaktapur, an ancient town of which is located in the east corner of Kathmandu valley. The entire town is a UNESCO world cultural heritage site and is the house of many ancient temples and palace.
