Overview

This trip is planned around the jungles of northern India – a hotspot for tiger sighting and birding. The forests of Jim Corbett and Ranthambore present a unique atmosphere; one with hills embracing the jungle and the other a shrubby land with a distinct tenor. Both are gorgeous. Along with that, the traveller gets to experience the exotic Taj Mahal and other Mughal structures of the city. All in all, it’s a wholesome trip for wildlife and heritage lovers.

Delhi / Day 01

Ranthambore / Day 02 - 03 & 04
Breakfast at hotel and then transfer to Delhi railway station to board the train to Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambhore). This also gives you an insight into travelling by the largest rail network in the world. Overnight in Sawai Madhopur. Early morning enjoys a game drive in the park by Jeeps or Canters. Ranthambore is a dry deciduous forest replete with several lakes, rivulets and a magnificent ancient fort overlooking the park. The wildlife that one can see here is a large variety of birds, including an impressive number of waterfowl and birds of prey. The water bodies are home to marsh muggers, turtles and pythons. The park also has an abundant population of sambhar, cheetal as well as nilgai (blue bucks). The afternoon is also reserved for a game drive.
Ranthambore – Bharatpur – Agra / Day 05
After an early breakfast transfer to Sawai Madhopur railway station to board a train for Bharatpur. From here, we drive to Agra and visit Fatehpur Sikri on the way. This is a beautiful and deserted medieval city that was built by Akbar the Great in the 16th century to serve as the capital of his vast empire. The complex consists of religious, residential and administrative buildings. The Mosque is considered a replica of the Mosque at Mecca and is extremely elegant, containing elements of Hindu and Persian design. Housed here is the Shrine of Sheikh Salim Chisti one of the greatest of Sufi saints of the Muslim world. Next stop, Agra. Agra stands on the right bank of the river Yamuna, and was once the seat of the Mughal rulers, the zenith of art and an enshrined romance. A town famous for its beautiful medieval monuments, the passion of the Mughals for building endowed it with some of the loveliest buildings in the world.
Agra –Unchagaon / Day 06
In the morning, we visit the world famous monument of love, the Taj Mahal, a poem in white marble, built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaj Mahal, who died giving birth to their 14th child. It employed 20,000 workers from the Central Asia and Europe for 22 years to construct this extravagant monument of love, inlaying the white marble edifice with precious and semi precious stones. We also have time to visit the Agra Fort, situated on the west bank of the river Jamuna. This was made by the Mughal King Akbar in the 16th century and completed by his grandson Shah Jahan, who was imprisoned by his son Aurangzeb for 8 years in this fort, before his death. After sightseeing, we drive to Unchagaon. Fort Unchagaon is a living witness of ancient glamour and valour. It was inherited by the present Raja Surender Pal Singh at the age of ten. The young prince put substantive effort to develop and maintain this ancestral property. Check into the hotel on arrival.
Unchagaon – Corbett National Park / Day 07
After breakfast drive to Jim Corbett National Park. Corbett is one of the finest National Parks in India. The core area of the park covers an area of 500 sq. km. and comprises the broad valley of the Ramganga River in the foothills of the Himalayas. This has resulted in great habitat diversity and given the park scenic charm and some magnificent sub-mountain and riverine views. One can see Himalayan animals along with numerous other animals and flora of peninsular India. The park was established in 1936 and later renamed after Jim Corbett, who spent many years in this area and wrote the book, The Man Eaters of Kumaon. The park has always been noted for its tigers and it was here that the prestigious ‘Project Tiger’ was launched in 1973. The wildlife of the park includes tiger, leopard, jungle cat, Asiatic elephants, and a variety of deer including muntjac (barking deer), spotted deer and hog deer. The park has a spectacular avifaunal diversity. Over 500 species of resident and migratory birds have been recorded in and around the park. On arrival, check into the hotel.
Corbett National Park / Day 08 & 09
Enjoy morning & afternoon game drive in the national park. During the Safari you will drive down to the river, to look for the long snouted, fish eating Gharial and Marsh Crocodiles. With the possibility of seeing 05 species of Kingfishers, Pallas & Himalayan Grey-headed Fishing Eagles, Osprey, Crested Serpent Eagle and of course the Mammalia, the safari is truly magical. The birdlife in this lower altitude wilderness is rich. Every flower truly enjoys the air that it breathes. The morning sun sets the hills on fire in their rich vibrant hues. The rough rocky terrain and the land formations are unbelievable. Overnight in the hotel.
Delhi / Day 10 - 11
On this day, we set out for Delhi. Time dependent, we visit some of the important structures like India Gate, the Presidents house and other Govt. buildings. Overnight at the hotel. Onward Flight.
