The Thenzawl Golf Resort project was inaugurated in Mizoram on August 4 under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme of the Ministry of Tourism.

Union Minister of State for Culture & Tourism (Independent charge) Prahlad Singh Patel virtually inaugurated the project, in the presence of the Robert Romawia Royte, Tourism Minister of Mizoram and Esther Lal Ruatkimi, Commissioner and Secretary, Tourism Department, Mizoram.

The golf course at Thenzawl is designed by Canada-based Graham Cooke and Associates. The total site area is 105 acres and the play area is 75 acres, which includes an 18-hole golf course with sharing fairway and automated sprinkler irrigation system by Rain Bird, USA. The state-of-the-art project will boast of 30 eco-log huts, cafeteria, open air food, while providing quality golfing experience and international facilities at an affordable price.

With favourable climate conditions, golf tourism has strong potential in India. Today, India has over 230 golf courses. The Ministry of Tourism is keen to promote golf tourism in the country and tap the growing interest in golf tourism. To this effect, the ministry is creating a comprehensive and coordinated framework for promoting golf tourism in India as a niche tourism product for attracting both International and domestic tourists.

With diverse physical attributes, rich cultural heritage and ancient history, India is an adventure lover’s paradise. Of late, there has been significant initiative in promoting tourism even in the remotest corners of the country.
